2024.02.20 IGS Seminar \u201c<\/strong><\/span>Reflecting on trans research in Japan<\/strong>\u201d <\/strong>
\nPostdoctoral fellow france rose hartline and his research assistant, Master’s student Mariko Morita, will hold a dialogue around hartline’s current project, Trans Experience of Belonging in Japan. The project has thus far spanned nearly one year, and together they have collected interviews with trans (transgender and gender-diverse) people living in Japan. They are exploring how trans people negotiate a sense of belonging in a culture that largely upholds gender normativity. The dialogue will present an overview of the challenges encountered during fieldwork, interesting findings and their significance, and what lies ahead as the project continues.

Bios
\nFrance Rose Hartline<\/strong> is a Norwegian-American postdoctoral fellow in Gender Studies with a specialisation in gender diversity. He also does community building work as an activist and artist, and has a strong interest in disability rights and ecofeminism.
\nMariko Morita<\/strong> is a Master’s student at Ochanomizu University majoring in clinical psychology.
