IGS International Seminar
“Indo-Pacific Minilateralism: A New Venue For Advancing Women, Peace And Security?”

Jacqui True will discuss how geopolitical competition and democratic backsliding threaten the stability of the Indo-Pacific region. In this context, international cooperation through the Quadrilateral security dialogue has the potential to strengthen shared liberal democratic values underpinning the vision of a free and open Pacific. But Quad minilateralism focused on security cooperation and economic resilience has hardly engaged with the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda now in its third decade.

This talk will consider how the pillars of the WPS agenda — commitments to equal and inclusive participation, protection, relief & recovery and conflict prevention — can help to realise the ambition of Indo-Pacific minilateralism, and how minilateralism may provide an alternative venue for strengthening the global WPS agenda.

True’s presentation is the keynote address for a two-day workshop on Women, Peace and Security in the Quad’s Commitment to a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
